i-city!

this weekend (well, TODAY), the inaugural "malaysia women marathon" was held in i-city, which is located in shah alam. i will get to the race in a separate first, but this was my first time exploring i-city. shah alam is about 35 km out from klcc, so i decided to spend the night out there. i had to go out saturday to pick up my race pack, and today to actually run, and it just seemed like a better idea. it turned out to actually be a really better idea, as my taxi out there was 100 ringgit, and back today was 60 (executive taxi vs budget taxi).

i-city is kind of like a couple of amusement parks in one. not quite like sunway lagoon, but close. i found sunway lagoon to be more cohesively laid out, whereas i-city was a bit disjointed and the maps didn't really make sense. there is a snoworld, a funworld, the city of digital lights, and a waterworld. there's also lots of carnival-type rides just out, and an arcade section with a few different "fun" (i.e. 5d, 6d) theaters, a trick art museum, and a little dinosaur exhibit.

waterworld has a few different slides, which looked fun, but i was not there for water rides. of course, i am always amused when i find disney where disney doesn't belong.

snoworld is an indoor fake snow.....world. erm. it had little games you'd play in the snow, lots of ice sculptures (although most looked to be melting, or broken), and two big slides to go down. it would be fun i suppose, if you're not accustomed to winters full of snow. i was wearing a skirt and a tanktop, but equipped with rented boots and a jacket, and it was cold. let's face it. i came to malaysia to get away from the cold.

the trick art museum was very neat. lots of people were in crazy poses next to the various arts, which created fun photos.

i could have done without the dinosaur display, but it was only five ringgit. just a big warehouse room with different dino displays and info about the dinos. "the straw that broke the camel's back" about the dino extinction was humorous though. at least, it was to me.

the city of digital lights was very neat. i only stayed just past sunset, but i'm sure it's even more beautiful in the dark. and there were sunflowers! those are my favorites, of course, so i was excited to see them in digital form.

i stayed at the "hotel de art," which was nice and clean, although the room was a little small. i also had breakfast included, but as i filled up on post-race goodies i didn't see what the offerings were. all of the rooms at the hotel are themed. i was hoping for one of the girlier (i.e. breakfast at tiffanys) rooms, but ended up with this one. it was alright alright. the front desk staff were also very helpful!

in all, it was a good quick overnight trip. if only i could say the race was just as good. you can read about that here!
