eat, pray, love, and some more!

continuing with my friend's visit, on the weekend we signed up for a tour called eat, pray, love, put on by the be tourist company. the tour is designed for... tourists, obviously. i think it tripped them up a bit that i live there, but even after being here for over a year, i learned things that i hadn't known before.

we started at a local food stall. our guide described the history of teh tahrik and the different types of roti. i love teh tahrik and roti, so i was happy, happy to start the day here.

teh tahrik, roti kaya and roti butter with a fish curry and a veggie curry, and roti tissue. kaya is a coconut jam, very sweet, and locals are always surprised when i say that i love it but I DO. it's delicious.

our guide then walked us over to the oldest chinese temple in kl. we learned many different things, but my favorite fact was how to tell the male and female lions at the front of the temples apart! females have their paw on a baby lion, while the males have their paw on a ball.

then we walked over to the fruit stand by central market. our guide showed us all the different fruits, let us try all of them, and then got us some iced lemon tea! you can always get your tea as take-away in a bag, and i pretty much love that. when you set the bag down on the ground, it maintains its shape so it doesn't spill. it amazes me.

then our guide got us some jasmine bracelets, and took us to the oldest indian temple. we arrived just before a ceremony, so we got to see that and relax before our next destination.

we went to a chinese food stall place, next to the wet market. we had barley tea, some sweet noodles, pork "rat tail" noodles, and then a fish noodle. i liked the sweet noodles, couldn't get past the name of the rat tail noodles, and never touch fish so i have no idea how the third one was. our guide then rushed us through the wet market to get to petaling street. the description said it'd take us through the wet market, but the guide literally rushed us through it so fast that we had no idea we were in it until we were out of it. i'd never been to it, because i hate raw meat, so i didn't realize. i think that's my only negative point to the tour. the wet market is a pretty interesting place to see, but we didn't even pause in it.

we then ended up where KL was founded, the place where the two muddy rivers meet. our guide explained the history and the buildings, and it was neat.

then we stopped by masjid jamek, which we couldn't go into because it was under construction. after that, we headed over to little india for some southern indian food. southern indian is served on the banana leaf and eaten with your hands. it's an experience for sure!

neroteca, kuala lumpur.
dinner that night was at neroteca, which is close to changkat bukit bintang. it was a farewell evening for meagan, so having delicious food made it not so bad! i had the gnocchi, which is always good. after dinner, we headed down to changkat to go to meagan's favorite place, havanas. we just had a drink then went home. changkat is full of bars and restaurants though, so it's a great place to go eat!

central market, kuala lumpur.
we went back to central market the next day, since we didn't really get time to shop there the day before. central market is filled with shops with souvenirs. every kind of souvenir you can imagine is in there. we also stopped by peter hoe, one of my favorite places. it was a very productive shopping day.

of course, because of our quick run through the central market the day before, we had to go back today so my friend could see all of it. eugh. that's enough wet market for me.

china town, kuala lumpur.
despite the signs, i always get lost down in chinatown.

kebab, kuala lumpur.
we had some chicken kebab wraps for lunch in the food court at KLCC. KL has a lot of delicious persian food. i wanted to take my friend to the oasis, which has my favorite favorites, but we never had time.

mei keng fatt, kuala lumpur.
we went to mei keng fatt for dinner, another dim sum place. i don't think it's as good as some of the others, but i love the pork fried rice there.

suzi's corner, kuala lumpur.

the next day, we went to suzi's corner for different. i always love suzi's. most people love it for the cheap steak, but i love it for the roti. we had garlic naan, cheese naan, roti cenai, and roti kaya with bananas. so much bread, but so good.

nando's, kuala lumpur.dome, kuala lumpur.dome, kuala lumpur.
the day after that, we had nando's again for dinner, and our evening dessert at dome. my friend had a poor substitute for teh tahrik, and i had some kind of kid chocolatey drink.

sticky, kuala lumpur.
we went elsewhere over the weekend, and when we got back, our last KL dinner was in din tai fung. then i showed my friend my favorite thing to watch, the candymakers down in sticky at pavilion.

fish spa, kuala lumpur.
she also got a fishy pedicure, and we saw the hangover part III. it was a nice last day!!
